Home is the stage where memorable experiences take place. From hosting ravishing dinner parties to enjoying a quiet evening alone with a good book. Arne Aksel believes home-textiles are the perfect backdrop for creating a scene, and in ‘Rule Your Home’ home owners and their personal spaces are highlighted.

Swedish interior designer, Marie Olsson Nylander, has spent the past few years dividing her time between Höganäs, Sweden and the small town of Termini Imerese in Sicily. Here, she and her husband have bought an old, dilapidated Palazzo, which they are restoring while filming the Swedish TV show “Husdrömmar Sicilien”.

Here is a portrait of Marie’s 18th Century palazzo in Sicily and her colourful interiors with Arne Aksel curtains.

Half of the time, outdoor spaces belong to the night. In the dark, light plays a major role as it can be used to create different narratives while improving surroundings to make them more adapted to human life. For more than 50 years, architect and urban design consultant Jan Gehl has been working with the points of influences where architecture directly and indirectly affects human lives, and how people use architecture and cities.

Meet Jan Gehl, who shares his reflections on using light to focus on important events and creating a sense of comfortability and architect and product designer Peter Bysted, who is behind the new Bysted Garden, and other inspiring experts.

When looking into the incredible world of lighting, it becomes apparent why so many architects and designers refer to lighting as the fourth dimension of architecture.

Light has the ability to transform our surroundings and allow us to shape the feeling, and identity that we want a hotel, restaurant or meeting facilities to embody. To make guests and visitors feel at home and at ease, it is well worth exploring the Scandinavian way of using light to create ‘hygge’ and how even the smallest changes with light can have a major impact on well-being.

Learn more about some of the best practices of designing with light in a selection of Copenhagen’s unique hospitality concepts with the Spacon & X architect, Nikoline Dyrup, and other inspiring experts.

In 2020, SAGA Space Architects began an expedition for three months in the Northern part of Greenland: a corner of the world that is both desolate, uninhabited and extreme – similar to the conditions on the Moon.

The SAGA team was on a quest to find out what it takes to live comfortably in space, on a simulated Moon mission, for several months in a row.

The expedition was part of a study, to find out how the human body and mind is affected under extreme conditions. Light was one of the key parameters used to measure well-being. Louis Poulsen designed a light panel, programmed to mimic changing daylight throughout 24 hours.

The Panthella lamp was designed in 1971 and has become a true design icon. It’s a perfect example of Panton’s brilliant sense of atmospheric illumination and his ability to transform a room with his innovative designs.

In the second film in the series, we delve into the history of Verner Panton's bespoke design with some experts from the industry.

This film was made as a tribute to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Panton’s timeless design classic — the Panthella lamp.

This is the first of six films that ALET Agency has been commissioned to produce for the infamous Danish lighting brand Louis Poulsen.

'REFLECTIONS' is a series of films on the subject of light. We dive into a multitude of thoughts, ideas, perspectives and wisdom on the matter. We interview some of the most creative and passionate minds of the industry, people that are dedicated to inspire and educate within the field of light.

For the first film in the series, we meet with designer Christian Flindt, who talks about the design of his new post top, landscape architect Rasmus Astrup and other inspiring experts.

Outside where there is no walls to define the space for lighting, the light has to be used to define and frame spaces. Light can be used to create imaginative walls, paths and landscapes and to construct an entirely new world visible only when the sun has set. Similar to the way in which stage designers work with light in a set design to enhance certain moods and feelings, we can use light to generate a sense of security, to affect behaviour and to create beauty in the real world.

Established in 2017, ARNE AKSEL is a Copenhagen-based company, founded with the intent of challenging and evolving the way we surround ourselves with textiles today.

By placing textiles at the center stage in residential and professional projects, the ideal is for textiles to serve as a means of spatial expression, while enhancing the experiences of light, acoustics and tactility to shape the atmosphere of a space.

Documented here in visuals and moving image, is the process of how ARNE AKSEL works.

Plant Print Workshop

Client Marble Matter
Creative Direction Anne-Sophie Rosenvinge
DoP & Edit Anne-Sophie Rosenvinge

The Plant Print Workshop is an attempt to show how easily accessible natural colour is in our everyday life. Most produce and botanical waste is capable of leaving a colourful mark on natural fibers. What we usually categorise as waste, can therefore be used to create small wonders of naturally dyed textiles. A great way to give new life to your wardrobe or embark on a foraging adventure in your kitchen and local park.

This workshop took place at Hawaii in Vesterbro, Copenhagen.
