Roadtrip Italy
Italy. The land of sweet, ripe tomatoes, burrata with olive oil and good local wine. A place where the food is always fresh and the sun always shines. Where the coastline stretches for miles and miles, where the air is hot and salty. The premise of our summer holiday of 2018 was simple. A car and the GPS set south. Apart from having booked a dinner at Masseria Moroseta in Apulia, we only planned our trip a few weeks ahead. Some places were even booked on the go. But having a car means having the freedom to go anywhere and the option to be spontaneous. We went to a lot of wineries, tasted the local grapes and brought back with us a fully loaded car of wines and Fasano ceramics.
Our roadtrip commenced in Sweden where we took the ferry to Rostock. From here we cruised down through Germany to Austria and finally, Italy. We drove down the East coast and made a few stops, before reaching Apulia where we had rented a house for a week, in Martinafranca. From here we crossed over to Amalfi, where we stayed for a few nights. We drove up the West coast and back through the Alto Adige region before working our way back via Austria, Germany and finally Poland, from where we took a night ferry back to Sweden. We most have driven around 5500 kilometres if not more down through Europe, but we broke down the trip with lots of sights, tastings and stops on the way. And listened to a lot of podcasts in the car.
This is a collection of our Italian summer memories, told in visuals.
