The Audo
The Audo is a hybrid space where sleep blends with design, and work meetings take place in beautiful surroundings, with objects and books.
Since visiting The Audo when it opened back in May (see more here) I’ve been wanting to get under the skin of this place. Both to be part of and observe how this multipurpose house runs, and how it feels to reside there.
Menu kindly invited me to spend a night in a room of my choice and I arrived early to check in and to make the most of my time there.
The Audo is a multipurpose building, dating back to 1918. Back then it was a boathouse and a Neo-Baroque residence. Today it’s a hub for design lovers, curious about how soft minimalism stands out in an otherwise industrial setting.
From the lobby and the café, black steel details and concrete flooring make up the interior. The space where you enter is vast. It is breathtaking and the eye immediately moves upwards, up the steps of a wide staircase, convincingly enough acts as the center piece of the space. From this inviting lounge area, one can grab a coffee or move into the more secluded areas of the ground floor.

Foliage
With a deep love for any space with an earth-toned colour palette, The Foliage Room was an obvious choice for me. The warm terracotta walls act as one big embrace and the textured oak cabinets offer the pleasant surprise of acting as an entry point for the bathroom. A feature so genius.
From the large industrial window, you overlook the patio, used during the warmer months of the year, as an extension of the café. But on the day where I was there, the window elegantly let in that autumnal light.
The sloping walls very much accentuate the loft style of The Audo Residence. All rooms feature DUX beds, promising you angelic, uninterrupted sleeps. Another common denominator of the 10 hotel rooms, is the treatment of the walls by St. Leo adding a rich texture and liveliness to the vertical surfaces. The bedding is from Aiayu and the towels are from Tekla. Not to mention the presence of Menu’s design objects and pieces of furniture making the room complete.
Thank you again Menu for allowing me to really soak up this place and having such a creative afternoon, spending time documenting it!
