Glyptoteket
One of my favourite places to hide on a grey, moody day is the colourful sculpture-filled Glyptoteket. With its window ceilings, the light always makes its way into the large arched rooms. Not only can the off-white statues impress the well wandered historical expert, but the tiled floors have a life of their own. The mosaics have highly sophisticated patterns, and the pedestals on which the sculptures sit, align perfectly with the lines under ones feet.
One thing to remember is that Glyptoteket is admission-free every Tuesday. This of course means that the place is a little bit more crowded than on all other week days, since bigger groups of people come to do 1:1 sketching. I love to look people over the shoulder, to watch how they portray the sitation in front of them.
The place in Copenhagen with the most marble, is by far this atrium of the museum. The pillars around sides of the room, create a powerful rhythmic sensation, and their placement has allowed room for a shelter like alleyway around the walls. Here, the yellow mosaic floor is really something to admire.
